Immigration Stay Remains

Maryland Immigration Attorney: Immigration Stay Remains

U.S. government on Thursday requested the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to lift a temporary hold on President Obama’s executive action on immigration after Federal Judge Hanen, who issued the stay, indicated that he will wait until after March 19 to decide on a similar request.  The government requested an expedited ruling.

But just this morning the 5th Circuit sides with Texas and the other states challenging the law giving them until March 23, 2015 to respond to the government expedited request according to Politico. Therefore, a decision is at least a couple of weeks away.

While we wait for that decision, the country will continue talking about this issue. Several legal scholars from around the country weighed in with this statement in support of Obama’s action stating that it was within the purview of executive authority and alleging that Judge Hanen’s decision was deeply flawed. If you have time it worth a read.
